V.A.: Harafin So

Sahel Sounds V.A. : Harafin So

- Bollywood Inspired Film Music from Hausa Nigeria (NI,comp.2013)***°

It is a bit difficult to describe the differences in the music well, but the music has a certain distinctive originality and the story behind it is worth to tell. Most track have deformed robotic vocals with a special effect, sometimes used in modern pop music called R&B nowadays, mixed with programmed electronics, synths for rhythm and melodic, still with an African style and sunny outcome. The inspiration recalls Indian music because of the North-Nigerian answer of movie production, (with a scene called Kannywood, based in Kano) with songs in them. Some of the songs are highly happy and attractive, knows the responses of vocalists, with sunny and swinging interactions, clever instrumentation with what sounds simple but effective programmed tools. Despite the simple idea it has its own warm sound and sophistication and originality. Here and there we hear guitars too. One track shows a bit of dub influence in the rhythms.
