이주원 - Lee Joo-Won (Tarotogachi)

This album is one of the few later generation albums that still has all the interesting elements, sometimes coming out perfectly, more than once being somewhat ridiculed by the tendencies of the times to make safe albums with adult lullabies, showing the man in perfect setting, comfortable and harmless. The fine elements are a lush orchestra, a rock band, a great voice, attention to detail, well-mixed studio work, and a feeling for fine harmony.

The album starts at its best with a rather psych-rock band accompanying a mellow sad song. The group singing has a bit grotesque woman’t voice showing of off-key a bit, still it is a good song. Further on the song and accompaniments become a bit more standardized in mode, the fifth song of the kind of tracks to avoid for psych-rock lovers, with its format of a kitschy coloured atmosphere. But then the rock element in bass and organ takes over again and this sort of combination do work perfect once more. Quickly it becomes mellow again in the next track, accompanying is the orchestra, an oboe and so on. Then, like whenever the rock element returns it becomes again more acceptable, with electric guitar and organ, and with nicely balanced harmonies and atmosphere.

All in all, the album has qualitative elements, for a Western lover only some tracks work best. Not a real must-have but some charm, coming out better whenever there are chosen more attractive combinations of arrangements that are up to our expectations.

Maniadb : 고 이주원의 3주기를 맞아 재발매되는 1976년 발표된 유일한 솔로작. 타이틀곡 [외로움은] 을 비롯해 양희은과의 듀엣곡 [한 사람], 양희은의 노래로 알려진 [내 님의 사랑은] 등 진귀한 버전이 수록된 보석 같은 음반.순수했던 꿈과 희망 그리고 당대의 정서를 노래한 수작. 포크그룹 [따로 또 같이]가 한국대중음악계에 남긴 업적과 영향력은 선명하다. 리더였던 이주원은 지난 2009년 4월 15일 향년 61세의 아까운 나이로 세상을 떠나 큰 슬픔을 안겨주었다. 3주기를 앞두고 그동안 쉽게 접하기 힘들었던 그의 데뷔음반이 재발매를 통해 새롭게 세상에 나왔다. 1976년 서라벌레코드를 통해 발표된 이주원의 솔로 1집으로 [따로 또 같이] 시절의 농익은 이주원이 아닌 풋풋한 청년 포크가수 이주원의 순수했던 꿈과 희망 그리고 음악적 재능을 웅변하는 수줍은 첫 걸음 같은 음반. 이 앨범에 수록된 10곡 중에는 그가 작곡해 양희은이 빅히트시킨 '한사람'을 이주원과 양희은이 프로젝트 혼성듀엣으로 맛깔나게 노래한 진귀한 버전이 숨겨져 있으며, 모든 곡은 이주원이 작사 작곡한 창작곡들이다. 역시나 양희은의 노래로 널리 알려진 ‘내 님의 사랑은’을 창작자인 이주원이 직접 노래한 트랙 또한 색다른 감흥을 안겨주는 희귀 음원이다.사실 작곡가로 대중에게 먼저 알린 이주원은 1976년에 데뷔음반인 독집 '외로움에'을 발표하며 비로소 싱어송라이터로 거듭났다. 그의 솔로 1집 앨범 수록곡들은 방송에서 제법 흘러나왔지만 빅히트 수준은 아니었다. 1집이 대중음악 콜렉터들에게 희귀한 콜렉터스 아이템으로 지금까지 회자되고 있는 것은 그 때문이다. 앨범에 담긴 그의 보컬은 화려한 가창력은 아니었지만 묵직한 저음의 매력이 강력한 남성미가 매력적이다. 하지만 데뷔음반에 담긴 그의 음악성은 풋풋한 신인의 그것을 벗어나진 못했으나, [따로또같이] 활동시절과는 확연하게 다른 질감을 느낄 수 있는 수작으로 자리매김 할 매우 의미 깊은 앨범이다.

가수 이주원, 세상과 이별...노래는 영원하리. 2019.03.13

[인천투데이 류병희 기자] 가수 이주원. 10년 전 세상과 이별했지만 노래와 이름을 남겼다. 1980년 후반 그룹 ‘따로 또 같이’ 리더이자 작곡가로 이름을 알린 故 이주원은 2009년 타계 후 올해 10주기를 맞았다.

이주원은 1976년 1집 앨범을 내고 가수로 데뷔했다. 작곡가로서는 ‘내 님의 사랑은’ ‘한사람’ ‘네 꿈을 펼쳐라’와 같은 곡들을 통해 이름을 알렸다. 79년에는 전인권, 강인원, 나동민과 그룹 ‘따로 또 같이’를 결성해 보컬과 기타를 맡았다.

그는 우리나라 포크 록 음악의 1세대이다. 80년대 초까지만 해도 드물었던 소공연장에서 공연을 열고 대중과 가까이 호흡하는 공연문화의 새로운 지평을 열었다. 또, 당시 세션 문화를 도입해 전문성을 살리고 음악의 완성도를 높이려는 노력도 기울였다.

그는 포크에 기본적 정서를 두지만 다양한 음악적 요소를 통해 새로운 시도를 하는 등 음악적 역량이 타의 추종을 불허하는 독보적인 위치에 있다고 평가를 받는다. 그러나 대중음악계에서는 아직 그를 저평가하는 경향이 있는 것도 사실이다.

그는 생전에 “노래를 하는 데 가장 중요한 것은 솔직함이다”라고 말했다. 말하듯 노래하는 법을 가르쳐주고 “가장 자연스럽게 나오는 소리에 집중하라”고 후배들을 챙겼다. 이것은 그가 노래를 부르는 방식이기도 했다.

그를 그리워하는 사람들이 인천에서 추모공연을 준비했다. 오는 4월 12일 저녁 8시 원도심 신포동 ‘흐르는 물’에서 공연한다. 특히 이번 10주기 공연에는 생전에 그와 친분이 두터웠던 가수 정형근과 후배 김상철이 함께 참여해 노래는 물론 그와의 일화도 들을 수 있다.

이주원을 아끼고 사랑하는 추모모임인 온라인 다음카페 ‘혼자 내리는 비 여럿이 내리는 비’에서는 2010년 4월 1주기 공연을 시작으로 지금까지 매년 추모공연을 이어오고 있다.

그동안 그를 아끼던 많은 선·후배 가수들이 해마다 추모공연을 함께 했다. 5주기에는 그가 남긴 미발표 곡들을 후배 가수들이 불러 헌정앨범 ‘바람은 강물을 만났을까’를 제작하기도 했다.

추모카페 관계자는 “올해 10주기 공연은 가수 이주원을 기억하고 그의 음악을 사랑하는 많은 사람들이 지속적인 마음모음으로 이루어질 수 있었다”고 말했다.

10년의 시간 꾸준히 추모공연을 이어온 팬들과 후배들은 그의 서정적이고 가슴 따뜻한 노래가 더 많은 이들과 함께 할 수 있기를 바라고 있다.

Singer Lee Joo-won. Ten years ago, broke up with the world, but left a song and a name. In the late 1980's, Lee Joo-won, who became the leader and composer of the group “Independently Together,” celebrated his 10th anniversary this year after his death in 2009.

Lee Ju Won debuted in 1976 as a singer. As a composer, 'My Love's name was announced through songs such as' One person' and 'Open your dreams'. In 79, he formed a group ‘Independent Together’ (Tarotogachi) with Jeon In-kwon, Kang In-won, and Na Dong-min to play vocals and guitar.

He is from the first generation of Korean folk-rock music. In the early stages of the 80's, small performance halls were held, opening a new horizon of performing culture that breathed close to the public. In addition, efforts were made to introduce the culture of the session at the time to enhance professionalism and complete the music.

He puts his basic sentiment on the folk, but is judged to be in a unique position where his musical competence is unmatched, such as trying new things through various musical elements. But it is also true that the pop music industry still tends to underestimate him.

Those who missed him prepared a memorial performance in Incheon. On April 12 at 8 pm, they will perform in Flowing Water, Sinpo-dong, the original city center. The online Daum Café, the Rain of Multiple Rains, alone, which celebrates and loves Lee Joo-won, continues the annual performance since the first cycle in April 2010.

Many senior and junior singers, who have been in love with him, performed a tribute every year. In the fifth cycle, junior singers sang unpublished songs that he left, and produced a dedication album, “Is the Wind Met the River?”.
