二村定一 / Teiichi Futamura

二村定一 / Teiichi Futamura : 帰ってきた街のSOS! 二村定一コレクション1926-1934 / Kaette Kita Machi no SOS! Teiichi Futamura Collection 1926-1934 ***°

The first CD contains at times more or elsewhere less grotesque playing and singing with banjo/brass, and shows amusement and cabaret related music from the 20s / 30s, in an amusing style like it was common to enjoy oneself in those years in several parts of the rest of the world. This grotesque effect being added the songs are probably deliberately not always sung perfectly correctly but are mainly expressed for fun purposes mostly, in its own art of doing so. There’s use of some classic world pop songs, but also listed are some Japanese songs with banjo/brass, occasionally with some Japanese instruments leads. Also listed are several sorts of original songs. There are duets / vocal participations too, with additional female voice(s) or responses too, accompanied by banjo most often and a bit of brass. Besides such instruments we also hear piano, accordion and wooden block rhythms. There’s often an old time jazz influence too. Some songs are with typical Japanese song flavoured melodies, accompanied by funny banjos and brass mostly. Funny to hear are also some Hawaiian music songs. The last few songs are more serious but still happy jazz context related songs. Rewarding !
