V.A.: "Even A Tree Can Shed Tears"
Light In The Attic Rec. V.A.: Even A Tree Can Shed Tears:
Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973 (JAP,2017) 2LP/CD ***°
The album notes describes the personal discovery process of the compilers and its favourites listed here, some of which appeared in my radio show before, like the classic melancholic guitar folk song beauty by Kenji Endo or the Joni-Mitchell-like Sachiko Kanenobu, previously reissued before, or some of the URC-label related groups/singers and even individual tracks or choices. Also listed in my radio show before was Masato Minami, but in this case with a different pick. Most tracks are related with the Japanese folk revival, also explained a bit the booklet, which was inspired from the American and somewhat English folk song success. Some tracks have more rock or just now and then tiny elements of psych or elsewhere east coast influences in them but still all of them have the same foundations in acoustic song writing. Each album, from which the songs arrive, has an additional page with review, and the lyrics are also translated into English and added in the booklet. For me not all tracks are must-haves but still each one of them provides an enjoyable, great listen, making a great compilation compiled with the necessary passion, interest and dedication to make this work. 19 tracks!! Not many compilations like this ever made it outside Japan so this is the album to compensate and make up for that!
